Personally, I am HUGE fan of audiobooks. I listen while working, driving, cleaning, you name it. It really helps focus in on my work during the day, or helps me escape into another world.
It especially, helps me discover new books that I wouldn’t have typically read; as they create a whole new reading experience that I wouldn’t have had whilst reading.
Which is why I find individuals scamming, or flat out committing fraud, to listen to them, wrong and frankly, it hits close to home.
There are other ways, people!
So today, I want to share with Where to Find Low Cost & Free Audiobooks the LEGAL way; from any genre, and a variety of authors and narrators.
Where to Find Cheap & Free Audiobooks

Your Library
Not only do most library’s carry audiobook CDs, a large majority of them have an eService, or app, for you do get them digitally on your device. Such as:
- Overdrive
- Hoopla
- RBdigital
.. just to know a few.
Seriously, you can’t go wrong with utilizing your community resources!
Audible
Audible, the LEGAL way!
Audible is fantastic. There are thousands of books available to download. There are also Audible originals, which you get access to 2 free every month.
Better yet, there’s Audible Escape, for the Romance fans. For an additional $6.95, you get access to unlimited romance audiobooks.
Honestly, these subscriptions pay for themselves for frequent listeners.

Libro.fm
Libro is very similar to Audible, but the best thing about it, is that you can select an Indie book store near you, and Libro will split the profits with whichever store you select! Win win!
In addition to that, you don’t HAVE to have a monthly membership if you aren’t a frequent listener. You can do the À La Carte Listening.
AND!
For the romance readers, Avon partners with Libro to offer 10 books each month for only $3.99. Can’t beat that!
Right now, you can Switch from any other audiobook provider and get 3 books for the price of 1. Just use code SWITCH at checkout! Go NOW and make the SWITCH!
Chirp
Chirp is a newer site that I’ve discovered and signed up for. It’s a subscription free service that has limited time deals on thousands of audiobooks.
After creating your account, you select your preferences, and you get an email of the current deals. Or, you can always long in a browse the sales.
Some titles are completely new to me, and some I have heard of. This is a great way to discover new authors.

I listen to audiobooks pretty much exclusively right now since I can do it at work which gets me a lot of reading time in. I will have to check out these other options because right now I only use Audible, but I don’t know if it is different here in Canada. Thanks for sharing!

I’m not sure but I can look into it to! It’s something good to know.
I currently use Scribd, but I’m getting a bit annoyed with them because they started capping how much you can listen each month. It used to be unlimited. I’ve been thinking of eventually switching to Libro.fm. I hadn’t heard of Chirp, so thanks for that suggestion!
I totally forgot about Scribd! But I’ve never used it either.
They have a pretty good selection, although new releases aren’t always available right away.
I’m an Audible subscriber. I haven’t done the Escape package because I just feel like the books aren’t my own. Don’t you have to return them when you’re done listening or something? There is also Audiobooks.com. Right now you can get two books for free, then 2 books free from a special collection. Let me know if you’d like the link or use the code RANTINGAUDIO. They have a great selection.
Right, you can keep them in your library, but eventually, you’ll have to return them.
I will check out that other site for sure!
I use all the sites you mention. I’m a big fan of audiobooks. Awesome post! I didn’t know initially but many of the KU offerings are read or listen.

I didn’t know that either! Good to know.
I occasionally listen. But I switched to podcasts which are shorter and more self-contained (as I listen while walking the dog)
