Last month, Elin tried to kill herself.
She knows she's lucky that her parents found her in time. Lucky to be going to prom with her three best friends, like any other teen. Like it never happened. And if she has anything to say about it, no one but her best friends will ever know it did.
Jenna, Rosie, and Ket will do anything to keep Elin's secret—and to make sure it never happens again. That's why they're determined to make prom the perfect night. The night that convinces Elin that life is worth living.
Except, at prom, Elin goes missing.
Now it's up to her friends to find her. But each of the girls has her own demons to face. Ket is being blackmailed by an ex. Rosie is falling in love for the first time. And Jenna . . .
Jenna is falling apart.
And no one, not even her best friends, knows why.
I received this book for free from The Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I read this book months ago, and I still find myself thinking about it. It’s just, SO GOOD!
In their efforts to keep things normal, Rosie, Ket, and Jenna decide to have a girls only prom night for their friend, Elin after she tried to commit suicide. Things don’t go as planned, and when Elin disappears, their effort to hide her secret, and secrets of their own, start to unravel.
We have our pick of books to choose from about suicide, and those stories leading up to those events. But, what happens AFTER? How does it affect friends, family, and yourself? How to move past that, and heal?
I loved that we got all the girls’ POV, and the flashbacks from Elin’s view. Each girl is so unique and has their own story to tell, and RuthAnne really brought out their voices. I also love how well she wrote about the AFTER effects of a suicide attempt, from all aspects. From sadness, to anger, to pity. It was very well written and I appreciate that.
Aside from the fantastic writing, I loved the friendship between the girls. They have secrets, yes, and keep things from each other, yes, but it was genuine. They each bring something different to the circle and they balance each other out well.
This made me laugh. It made me tear up. It has the brutal honesty of secrets, depression and a suicide attempt; and how your family and closet friends handle it. And it made my heart heavy with happiness with the all the friendship love. When The Truth Unravels is a must read. One of my favorite reads of 2018. Highly recommend.Four Friends. Many secrets. One night; what happens when it all unravels? Click To Tweet
