Welcome back to another Random Rants & Rambling. Today, I wanted to talk about Reading Too Much – and if this is a THING, and if so, is it BAD? I’ve had quite a few discussions about this topic lately, in varying degrees and after a while, I really started to think about how much I read, and my memory of said books.
I use to pride myself with my memory skills. I can remember the most RANDOM things – and a lot to do with numbers. Lately, though, I’ve noticed that I forget character names, small details of books I’ve read recently and I wonder if it IS BECAUSE I read a lot, or if there is something else going on entirely.
Pre and post blogging days, I’ve always been a book a day type person and I can read many books at one time. Pre-blogging days – I can tell you about those books, what I loved/didn’t love and all the details. I’ve never been the type to takes notes, or review right after finishing a book. Rather, putting one down and moving on to the next. But like I said, I’ve noticed I am forgetting things or mixing up details.
It’s weird to me that there are some books I read two years ago that I can recite, but not two weeks ago.
It sucks because I have a routine down. I read all week before and after work, draft my posts on Saturday and then write all my posts/reviews on Sunday; sometimes editing at work when I have some downtime. This has worked for me for 2 years – so I can’t figure out why I am having such a hard time with it now.
Maybe it’s deadlines? Is life too stressful? Is it my old age? (lol) Is it the books I am reading just not that memorable? I don’t know! But I am starting to wonder if it is my reading habits need some adjusting and y’all, I freaking hate change.
My final thoughts? I’m still on the fence. Right now, I will say that reading a lot in conjunction with all the other things going on MAY BE playing a role. I might slow down and see what happens. For science. 🙂
