When I saw the prompt for the TTT post for this week, I knew I would be discussing something to do with listening to audiobooks.
(Admittedly, I almost changed it completely to share reasons why YOU should listen to audiobooks, but I’m hoping MY reasons will persuade you to listen!)
I’ve been listening to audiobooks consistently for about 4 years now. My first audiobook was around the same time I started blogging (7 years) but I didn’t become an avid listener until years later.
I honestly can’t say what specifically urged me to start listening to audiobooks, to begin with, I just know that I am so glad I did because I LOVE IT!

Why I Love Listening to Audiobooks & You Should Too!
It creates a new reading exprience
Listening to audiobooks will create a whole new experience whilst reading. Assuming the narrator is good, which most of the time they are. Their ability to bring the characters to life is amazing and adds an extra depth to the story.
I will admit, the narrator will make or break an audiobook.
I discover new genres
One of my favorite books from last year was an audiobook in a genre I normally wouldn’t have picked up; just for the simple fact isn’t my typical read. But the narration was FANTASTIC and made the book for me.
This has happened several times over the course of the past few years. There are books I am listening to in genres that I never thought I would read. Like, non-fiction for example.
I love this, because it has opened up my perspective on a lot of different topics, and has challenged me to grow not only as a reader, but as a person as well.

I’m able to support authors
Not every audiobook is picked up, or given, audio rights by their publisher. This means that their audio imprint, assuming they have one, is not going to produce the book.
This is where smaller publishers or production companies come in.
This not only supports an author in another fashion, but I am also supporting narrators, producers, and even a small businesses of my choice, just for doing what I love.
Reading.
I can listen anywhere & multitask
Gone are the days of using 15+ disks in your CD player, or listening to books on tape. Wait…. Am I aging myself?
Thanks to apps, downloads to iTunes, and more, I am able to listen to audiobooks wherever I am, whatever I am doing, without being stuck in a specific spot to listen to the audiobook.
When I worked my office job, I would listen to books all day long while working. I wasn’t always productive but, at least I got some good books in!
I also listen when cleaning, blogging, or driving. Cooking, gaming, I mean, you name it. Or, if I want to just sit and listen, I can do that too.
It saves me money on books
In some cases, getting a book on audio can be cheaper than the physical book. This isn’t always the case but it is if you are an avid listener and use the right, and legal, resources.
A monthly subscription to audible or Libro.fm is already cheaper than most physical copies, and you are given discounts on other book purchases.
Not only that, but Audible also has deals all the time where you can get 2 for 1, and Libro.fm is partnered with Avon; creating Kiss Club where select romance audiobooks are only $3.99 for the entire month! (no subscription required).
But are monthly subscriptions worth it? That all depends on how many books to listen to a month. For me? It is, because I listen to at least 2-3 a month, outside of review copies I receive from publishers.
Plus, there are ways you can listen to audiobooks for free!
Loving this post? Pin it!

I get to read more books!
Yes, listening to audiobooks counts as reading. Let me say it again for the people in the back:
Listening to audiobooks counts as reading.
I only have so many hours in a day where I am able to sit down and read a book. This means that 1) I have to be selective about books I decide to sit and read and, 2) limits the number of books I am able to read a year.
But with the ability to multitask while listening to audiobooks, I am able to read SO many books. Which helps me reach my goal on Goodreads that I set for myself every year!
So win-win! More books = goals met.
Audio Book Recommendations
Whether you are looking for a new thriller, a romance, or a non-fiction starter, here are some of my favorites that you should give a go!

The sequel to ONE OF US IS LYING, this is a fantastic audio compilation of multiple narrators. Add that with the authors ability to write an engaging whodunit, I highly recommend it!

WELL MET was one of my favorite books I read in 2019. It’s an “enemies to lovers” romance book that was set during a renaissance fair! I also loved the growth of the characters throughout the books.

EDUCATED was a very well done memoir – it was narratored by one of my favorites, too! Some of Tara’s story is hard to listen to, but that makes it WORTH listening too. It’s amazing what she has cover come, and done with her life. She’s inspiring.

The RAVENELS series is by far, one of my all time favorite Historical Romance series. This is the perfect example on how a narrator brings a character to life. Plus, the series is just AMAZING. Highly recommend getting this, even if you have read them, listen to the audiobook!

What a nice post. I can definitely see why you like audiobooks so much!
My TTT .
Thank you! 🙂
Great list! Yes, I love being able to read wherever I am with an audiobook – especially if I have a long car journey ahead of me.

Exactly. I drive from FL/GA every couple of weeks and this is one of the best times to get books in.
I’ve only recently gotten into audiobooks. I agree with all your reasons, although the chief reason i listen to them is because of the multitasking thing. I love being able to do two things at once by listening to an audiobook while driving, doing housework, working on other projects, etc.
Happy TTT!

Yep – I also feel like i get SO MUCH more done when listening to audiobooks.
IT TOOK ME A LONG TIME TO GET INTO AUDIOBOOKS (I STARTED BY LISTENING TO AUTOBIOGRAPHIES TO GET INTO THEM) BUT NOW THEY MAKE UP NEARLY HALF OF MY READING FOR THE YEAR! lIKE YOU SAID, THE ABILITY TO MULTITASK HELPS A LOT. INSTEAD OF LISTENING TO MUSIC, i’LL PUT ON AN AUDIOBOOK INSTEAD.

Yep, same here! Audiobooks have even replaced my Podcasts, which sucks because I do love Podcasts LOL
I love audiobooks too! I usually get all my audiobooks from my local library as digital downloads and it’s awesome!

Exactly! I don’t know why, but I struggle to READ non fiction. But I do okay listening to audiobooks
Great post. I wish I could get into audiobooks – all that commuting time that could be spent in a book!
Why haven’t you been able to? Have you tried listening to your favorites on audio?
I agree with your opinion, I could relax me when i LISTEN TO audiobooks, and my eyes could have a rest
