All About Series | Series Left Unfinished

FacebookTweetPinEmailShares7

book series

Hey Hey! Welcome to another Random Rants and Rambling; a discussion feature dedicated to all topics but generally book related. This feature is all about BOOK SERIES!

For a full list of topics, visit the archive.

A feature within a feature. WHY YES, YES I WILL. Because I can.

I have so many thoughts about many different series out there – instead of making it one long ass, 4,000 + word post, we can break it up into many and discuss each part at length, mm’kay?! Fun FUN!

To start, I want to talk about series I haven’t finished*. This could be because of loss of interest, the length, or just.. I forgot about it? Whatever the reason… I just haven’t finished them.

For the record: This is the 3rd time I’ve done this. You can check out the part 1 from back in the day and then part 2, in which I admit to the ones I wont finish.

*ANY series with forthcoming books are not listed.

**PS I have way more than this

*** PPS, I will not put repeats here. Soo, check out the other posts for more.

Young Adult

Only Book 1 is shown for the series

  • Harry Potter *hides*

I’ve read the first book twice, but never really had an interest continuing. There is not one specific reason why, either. that being said, I am totally a Slytherin and love the movies.

  • The Mortal Instruments

Not gonna lie – this makes me sad. I fell IN LOVE with this series back in 2008. I loved where the 3 rd book, City of Glass, left off. And yes, I loved TID but wasn’t big on the revamp (books 4-6) of TMI. I want to read the other spin-offs at some point, so I will be doing a MASSIVE reread.

  • Firebird

I love love love the first two books in this series. Which is funny, because I totally forgot about it when the 3rd book was being released. I would have to reread before finishing this series because they’re so intricately detailed. (I’m a collector of this series, so if you have an ARC of the first book, and don’t mind parting, PLEASEEEEEEEEE let me know.)

  • Bloodlines

I think I like this series more than Vampire Academy. But after reading spoilers for the final book, I decided not to read it. SAD DAYS.

  • Starbound

Another series that (many) really love.. I can’t even give you a legit reason I never picked up the final book.

  • Conspiracy of Us

This was one of the first YA series I started on audio. I didn’t really like where the second book ended.. but I don’t think that’s really what kept me from finishing.. Actually, I can’t think of any other reason why I didn’t finish this one, too.

New Adult/Adult

WOW Look at that matching color scheme!

  • Women of the Otherworld

This series. It’s one of the first Paranormal Romance series I started when I got back into reading, and I love them SO much. (The YA series, Darkest Powers, is one of my all time favorites, too.) This world is fascinating; with witches, shifters, necromancers, demons, vampires, etc. So, what kept me from finishing? The final books has a main character named Savannah, which is a 12 year old girl early in the series and grows up as the series progresses. I have ZERO interest reading about her grown up. Especially her more.. mature scenes. NOPE.

  • Black Dagger Brotherhood (BDB)

This one is easy. This series is MASSIVE. I stopped reading at book 10? maybe 9 when I noticed the same themes. Plus, my favorite plot arc of the story was resolved. I hear there is a spin-off of this and the main series is on book 15? But dang.

  • Kingmaker Chronicles

Again, another start to a series I really, really liked. That being said, I felt like this was too similar to one of my other favorite series, Kate Daniels. I know it’s hard to be wholly original, but… too many similarities for me.

 Let’s Talk

  • Have you read/finished/not finished any of these series?
  • What are some series that you haven’t finished yet?

Never miss a discussion!

Oh man. I have a few series that I would love nothing better than to finish off. Though, I’m happy to say I’m up to date with The Black Dagger Brotherhood at least. I also have The Dark Hunters by Sherrilyn Kenyon that I want to finish, as well, Death series by JD Robb.

Do you recommend catching up on BDB?

I am caught up on the BDB, but the spin off series I am behind on. I think I’ve read book one but just haven’t gotten back to them. I’ve also kind of given up on the Stephanie Plum series. I have the books, but I’m not in the mood for those right now.

How are you liking the spin off to it? Another series I never finished was Sookie! I don’t know why I didn’t add that.

We have some of the same! I got to 8 or 9 with BDB and got bored. I only picked up the first book in the Starbound series and no real reason why I didn’t continue.

There are so many series that I abaonded over the years. I wouldn’t even want to write up one of this posts. I will say that the Bloodlines series is really good but the first couple of books are a little slow. Most of the rest I would say skip except maybe Harry Potter.

I really like Bloodlines, even more so over VA. But IDK. The last ones were kind of weird for me lol

It seems like i have to REALLY LOVE the books to finish them. But I stop reading more adult series than YA I found.

Starbound is one that I started but lost interest in. I just started TMI late last year so I’m curious to see if I’ll be able to go the distance on that one.

One of my fears is that I wont like the series as much now, 10 years later. Which is why I’ve held off on a reread for so long.

It’s been years since I read The Mortal Instruments but I really enjoyed the whole series. However, I know *a lot* of people felt it should have ended after the original three books. The BDB series has always been intriguing but there are just So Many Books. I’m not willing to make to commitment. Too many other books that I already own and am excited to read.

I agree about TMI! Although at the time, I was over the MOON when they were announced.. then immediately retracted once I read the next two LOL

I feel the same about BDB. But I still recommend the first 7. they are quick reads, too!

I’ve never heard of The Kingmaker Chronicles but I’m curious enough to check it out now! I LOVE the Kate Daniels series so I’ll either really enjoy it because it ticks my boxes (in its similarities) or I’ll hate it because of the similarities, lol.

The Bloodlines series is one I abandoned. I just didn’t like the direction it was going and thought Sydney and Adrian were too… Blah. They felt forced together.

Uhhh I’m terrible but I leave series in the dust all the time. You have to really wow me for me to hunt down the next book. With all the new series always releasing I’m more apt to go for something I haven’t even started series wise. Like the Bitten and Starbound series!! Oops! 😉

I’m right there with you with The Mortal Instruments and Firebird. I loved the Bloodlines series (I agree that it’s better than the VA series) and Starbound. I own the first two Conspiracy of Us books on audio (I won them), but I haven’t listened to them yet. I am horrible about starting series and not finishing them.
