Are you still adjusting to working from home? Or struggling to have a great workday while on lockdown? You’re not alone.

The COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown have become “the new normal” for many of us. We’ve become accustomed to spending 23 hours a day in our homes and only seeing our friends and families through the screens of our smartphones and tablets.

On a professional level, it’s safe to say that you’ve probably taken something of a tumble.

Whether you’re doing your old job in a new way from home or starting out with a new business or creative endeavor, productivity may be difficult to come by.

After all, you’re striving to succeed under extremely difficult circumstances. You’re battling a combination of logistical headaches and mental health gremlins all while maintaining work and home under the same roof.

So cut yourself some slack!

Every day doesn’t have to be perfect. But you should celebrate your successes every day, no matter how small or quotidian they may seem…

Below, see 4 tips to have a GREAT workday while on lockdown.

3 Tips To Make Your Workday GREAT While On Lockdown

Start your day with an affirmation

Had trouble sleeping? Woken up from a bad dream? Feeling like you can’t possibly face the day? Start out by saying some positive affirmations into the mirror. Yes, you may feel silly at first. Yes, it will take you a while to get used to doing it. But you can make positive affirmations work for you so that you start every working day with your best foot forward.

You can also do this before a big meeting, submitting a project or email, or just when you need a simple pick me up. Telling yourself you are AMAZING will do wonders for your mental health.

Find little ways to make your life easier

Waste is a thief. And time is your most precious commodity. Fortunately, there are lots of ways in which you can avoid wasting time throughout your working days. For instance, using the templates at https://www.templafy.com/platform/ can shave precious minutes off of every working day and prevent you from having to make high-quality professional documents from scratch. Likewise, using task management software can help you to break working days into smaller discrete tasks and give you a greater feeling of accomplishment.

Know when to step away from your desk

Sometimes, the best thing you can do for your productivity (and your health) is to step away from your desk and make yourself a cup of tea. Staring at that blank screen for too long will only make you feel more anxious and frustrated. Not to mention the fact that sitting down all day every day can be ruinous for your health. So it’s important to know when to step away from your desk, give yourself a short but meaningful break and return to your desk feeling mentally renewed.

And finally… Don’t forget to breathe!

No, I’m not being facetious. Breathing is extremely important for everything the body does. But when our bodies are in an anxious state we can find ourselves unconsciously holding our breath or taking faster and shallower breaths.

This can exacerbate our feelings of panic and stress. Be mindful of your breathing and try to take slower, deeper breaths. This will help you to feel calmer while you work and make your working days infinitely more pleasant.

Try the 4-8-7 method. Inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 8 seconds, and breath out through your mouth for 7 seconds. This will help you relax and clear you mind.
