National Book Award-finalist Adele Griffin tells the fully illustrated story of a brilliant young artist, her mysterious death, and the fandom that won't let her go.

From the moment she stepped foot in NYC, Addison Stone’s subversive street art made her someone to watch, and her violent drowning left her fans and critics craving to know more. I conducted interviews with those who knew her best—including close friends, family, teachers, mentors, art dealers, boyfriends, and critics—and retraced the tumultuous path of Addison's life. I hope I can shed new light on what really happened the night of July 28.

I received this book for free from The Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

You’ll find that this isn’t a normal “review.” For this post – I write to Addison.

I’ve been sitting here for about…. 30 minutes over an hour, trying to figure what to say. Good, bad… the ugly. I can’t seem to, though.

Which in ironic in on itself. Words are my art. But when it’s there, it’s there. When it’s not? Well, I’m sure you can relate to that.

And I sure as hell can’t paint.

What bothers me the most is that, there IS a lot to say.Your art, your life and the darkness. I think what’s difficult is that I have more questions than answers. But it’s not my place to ask. You don’t owe me anything.

It’s no secret that you touched the lives of many. Friends, family, co- workers.. well, not co-workers, per se. And I wonder, do you even know how much?

Did you know?

I feel like I know you through the words of those that you meant so much to. Yet, I don’t. You’re a ghost – an eccentric ghost.

A whisper of a brush, a name. A story.

You left a sea of questions, waiting to be answered. It’s amazing how you only let those few in and see you. But no one really saw you, did they?

They see you now.

Of course, they would disagree with me. Everyone felt feels they knew you, owned you. Knew what was best. How to help.

But did they?

I’m asking questions. HA.

You left too soon, Addison. That we can all agree on. You were a bright star in a desolate sky. A bold color in a cluster of white.

But you’ll live on. In your art, in the lives of those you touched. And your fans.

You’re the second blogger today who’s written a letter-type review, and I’m really liking this format. I’ve stared at my monitor for 30 minutes before too, so I feel your pain. That being said, I think you came out alright. 🙂 Thanks for sharing that artwork at the end of your post too, I’ll have to check-out the rest on the IamAddistoneStone blog tour page.
