Sometimes life isn't pretty, but you have to close your eyes and let go...

Maddie Martin's first weekend at college is nothing like she's used to. It's wild, like the wilderness on which the University of Bellam Springs sits. Roped into going to a fraternity party, she literally runs into Kyle Hadley. The boy she's loved since she was nine. The boy she promised all of her firsts to. But that was before his father killed her parents.

Determined to stay away from him, she throws herself into her music. Practicing piano eases her heavy heart, calms the sadness, and pushes away images of Kyle's face.

Until it doesn't.

Her music professor asks her to play a duet for their annual Winter Gala. Doing so means she'll be assured another full ride scholarship. It's an opportunity she can't pass up.

But Kyle is the other half of the duet. And that means hours and hours of practicing.

Weeks of seclusion - just the two of them. And it's more than just music. It's passion like Maddie never believed was possible.

The inevitable happens. She falls in love with him all over again.

But, will loving him be enough to erase all the hate in her heart for his father? Can she look at him, and not see the evil in his family tree?

And maybe it's all a set up. Maybe Kyle is only pretending to care so he can finish what his father started, and kill her too

After participating in the cover reveal, I was anxious to get my hands on Touching Melody. I have to admit, I have been in a funk when it comes to NA. I have read too many as of late with the same plot, same characters, same.. Pretty much everything. Touching Melody fits this bill but it is so much more too.

Maddie is starting her first year of College. Trying to move on since witnessing the death of her parents, she is trying to forget and live her life. Enter Kyle. Her childhood best friend and the boy who she promised all her firsts to. They haven’t talked since that eventful night 7 years ago. Then one night, they run into each other at a part. Torn between her old feelings for Kyle and her hatred for his father, Maddie tries to ignore Kyle, no to avail. After the two are paired for a gala, the two battle their attraction for each other. Soon, the truths Maddie has been hiding come out.

Still suffering from the pain or their death, Maddie copes with her music and tattoos. She is pretty naive about the world, since she had lived a sheltered life after her parents died. Knowing this– I thought it was kind of odd how naive she was but started getting tattoos at age 14. She was hard to relate to at times and I found myself rolling my eyes at her often. Not to mention– her brush off to her roommates extracurricular activities. No one is that naive about how BAD that is. She is incredibly damaged, lonely and honestly, scared– so it was nice seeing her slowly grow out of that.

Kyle, in my opinion, was a lot more interesting character. Even though our first glimpse at him was when he accepting an invitation for a 3 some. He has his own issues and uses his own means to cope. He never really got over Maddie’s “disappearance” and he had written to her for years with no response. Those flashbacks into his childhood were heartbreaking. He just felt more expressive and REAL to me. However– he too, was pretty naive about events happening all around him.

I loved the twist thrown in at the end. I had my suspicions about what happened but I didn’t think it was THAT twisted.

Overall- While I had a hard time relating to the MC, I thought Touching Melody was a decent read about love, loss and forgiveness.
