Note to Self

Love is patient; love is kind.
Love doesn't boast or brag.
There's no arrogance in love;
it's never rude, crude, or indecent-it's not self absorbed.
Love isn't easily upset.
Love doesn't tally wrongs.
Love trusts, hopes, and endures no matter what.
Love will never become obsolete.
I'll fight for her.

Caleb Drake never got over his first love. Not when he got married. Not when she got married. When life suddenly comes full circle Caleb must decide how how far he is willing to go to get the aloof and alluring Olivia Kaspen back. But for every action in life there is a consequence, and soon Caleb finds out that sometimes love comes at an unbearably high price.

*Look, it’s Caleb! And Olivia and Leah behind him!*

Love Me with Lies series review continues with Thief, the third and final book. If you missed my review of The Opportunist and Dirty Red, read those first before continuing here.

Thief is, in a matter of words, the final pieces to the puzzle. The answers to all your questions. If you have invested the time to read the first two books, your love for Thief will soar. Seriously. I can’t say enough how good this series is.

Here we are, the end to a long journey of love, lies and deceit. Thief, puts us in Caleb’s head. FINALLY. Throughout the series, I have been wondering what it IS about this guy. What he could possible be thinking, especially because LEAH, and what has been going through his head since day one. I didn’t realize how far his lies and deceit went, but holy hell. These three characters, not to mention their allies, are all royally screwed up.

And I loved it.

When I first started Thief, I was just a tad bit angry. I mean, Olivia is HAPPY. She is married. Caleb though, has taken those gloves off and is going to fight for her. After all this time and everything that he has put her through, NOW he wants to fight!? C’mon!

Yet… As I’ve said time and time again, Caleb is no innocent. There is SO MUCH going on behind the scenes that we didn’t see before in the other two books, and discovering it all shed a LOT of light on things. I mean, a lot.

One thing about Caleb, he is loyal. It’s placed in the wrong areas, but loyal non the less. His morals have been pushed aside a time or two, but in the grand scheme of things, he has TRIED to make things work. He has tried to be the better person (laughs hysterically). But after everything he and Leah confessed at the end on Dirty Red, he pretty much just said screw it and is finally doing the “right thing” and fighting.

Let’s set aside Caleb for a minute and focus on Olivia. This girl has really come a long way. Is she perfect? Uh, no. But she is grown so much over the course of the series (10 years). All she has ever done, good and bad, was for Caleb. Even when things with her current husband, who is sweet and NOTHING like Caleb, starts to spiral out of control. She is so confused, she pushes aside her wants/needs for Caleb. There are reasons, because again LEAH. And even though we know her love for Caleb is all-consuming, she loves him enough to let him go. Or try to. This whole situation is a huge fuckin mess!

Leah. Ah! I cannot stand this woman. I have plenty to say about her, but if I start I will never stop. So I wont even bother.

My favorite scenes–

Leah gets hit in the face.

The reunion between Caleb and Estella.

Olivia and Caleb in her office.

The mop “fight.”

The epilogue broke my heart. Seriously. I loved how it comes to an end though. It isn’t is this pretty little box with a shiny bow. But good enough to have me smile in contentment. So sad to see this series end.

My only peeve in this entire series is the time frame. There were times when I had to sit back and actually THINK about timing because we get a lot of the same scenes, with the switch back and forth from past to present. But that’s it.

Overall –

You guessed it, I loved it. Such an amazing series that will drive you crazy, make you think and give you the worst book hangover, ever.
