Tess used to spend more hours than she'd care to admit playing her favorite computer game, using the nickname Angel. She could pretend her life was different, and she could pretend Arion was just a friend. But a girl needs more to keep her warm at night than pixels, and she traded her virtual heaven for a real-life hell. Now she's on the run from a past she won't talk about, and the only place she has to go is the doorstep of the friend she's never actually met.

When Angel disappeared from their nightly games, it nearly destroyed Arion. He threw himself into work and women, but he can't help knowing the one-night stands will never compare to the angel who haunts his dreams. At first, when she shows up soaking wet and scared-shitless on his doorstep, he thinks his prayers have been answered.

But the more Arion tries to keep Angel close, the more her fear drives her away. If they are ever going to have a chance for a future, they'll first have to deal with the past that hasn't forgotten her any more than she's forgotten it--and Arion will have to learn how to let her go.

I received this book for free from The Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I’ve read my fair share of NA and as most of you know.. we are having a tiff. There are some things you get tired of while others, you don’t. There are two NA I have read these past two weeks, that have been different and give me hope for this genre. Including this one. Still, I wasn’t WOWed by it.

Angel and Arion have known each other for a few years, getting close over the MMORPG, Warquest. After Angel starts dating Nick, she pulls away from Arion then disappears from the game entirely. Fast forward one year later and she is at his door. Running from her past, Angel seeks refuge with Arion and it becomes apparent right off that these two still have feelings for each other. But with her skittish personality and Arion’s tendency to grab and never let go, can these two work past their issues to be together? And what happens when Angel’s past catches up with her?

What I liked most about No Ones Angels is how Angel’s and Arion’s relationship started. Online gaming. In this day in age, it isn’t uncommon to meet people over the internet, be it friends or other– and I thought that was refreshing to read about. I actually know of a couple that have met over the game that Warquest was based on and they are happy as can be. Anyway. I loved that the story was dual POV and we are able to get both sides. They each have their own distinct voices and I thought this was well executed.

Angel is a terrified, scared and lonely girl. It was pretty easy to figure out the details of what she was running from and it isn’t pretty. She flees across the country for help, to Arion. Although some part of her does trust him, obviously, since she ran to him; she doesn’t really trust anyone and the thought of running again crosses her mind often. Arion, is patient, kind, but harbors some insecurities of his own. Having been devastated after Angel’s “disappearance”, he is just starting to get his life on track when she shows up at his door.

Honestly, I really liked these two together. You can tell right off that their “innocent” banter and flirting meant more to each other but they were both scared and hesitant to ever confess their true feelings. At the same time, I felt like their relationship was already developed and I missed being able to SEE it. Yes, they grow closer as the book progressed, but things moved a little too fast for my taste in the beginning. It was like two lovers rekindling but knowing NOTHING about their relationship to being with, make sense?

As we learn more about Angel’s secrets, things really start to come into focus. It was awful what she went through and I believe she had legit reasons to be terrified. Her ex is a piece of work and crazy. Arion’s insecurities really drove him and although I felt bad for the guy, he was way too pushy and needy. Especially when it mattered the most. Both overall, watching them grow together was sweet.

My favorite character would have to be Arion’s step sister. She is mean and awful to Angel at first, but since she witnessed Arion’s break down, she has reason to be. She is tough as nails, honest and I loved how she spoke her mind. She was the push that BOTH of them needed and I honestly can’t say what would have happened without her.

My Peeve- Well, like I said, I didn’t feel that connection to their relationship right away. I wish we would have gotten a little bit more into their past to just SEE how they use to interact with each other, instead of being told about it.

Overall- I liked it. Although everything was wrapped up nicely, their journey isn’t over. All fans of NA will love this one.

I read the blurb for this awhile back and was intrigued- mainly because I used to be a gamer! And I thought how cool! And you know I love my NA! But- I’ve needed a break. In fact, most of my review books the last week or so have been YA. YAY! Anyways- off topic. I understand your wanting to see the relationship part form instead of a rekindling. I would want to see that too, not just hear about it. Maybe I’ll give this one a shot at some point in the future…
