Marlee thought she scored the man of her dreams only to be scorched by a bad breakup. But there's a new player on the horizon, and he's in a league of his own...

Marlee Harper is the perfect girlfriend. She's definitely had enough practice by dating her NFL-star boyfriend for the last ten years. But when she discovers he has been tackling other women on the sly, she vows to never date an athlete again. There's just one problem: Gavin Pope, the new hotshot quarterback and a fling from the past, has Marlee in his sights.

Gavin fights to show Marlee he's nothing like her ex. Unfortunately, not everyone is ready to let her escape her past. The team's wives, who never led the welcome wagon, are not happy with Marlee's return. They have only one thing on their minds: taking her down. But when the gossip makes Marlee public enemy number one, she worries about more than just her reputation.

Between their own fumbles and the wicked wives, it will take a Hail Mary for Marlee and Gavin's relationship to survive the season.

I received this book for free from The Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

My Thoughts:

I started reading this at the pool right as we kicked off week 1 into the NFL season. I immediately got hooked and was immersed into Marlee’s humorous monologue.

1st Downs:

I would agree with what both Wendy and Andi have said about Intercepted; this book is FUN. I enjoyed the humor, wit, and drama. The book pulls you in right away and can easily be devoured within hours. Yes, it could be over the top at times, but I loved the idea this could *all* be based on Alexa’s experience as a Football Wife (not saying that is the case). Being an Army wife once upon a time, I can tell you women really are this bitchy, catty and petty.

I really liked Marlee. I felt like her struggle to find herself after being in the relationship she had been in for so long was genuine and I could totally relate. She’s a no-nonsense type, and isn’t afraid to admit to and tackle her insecurities and “haters” straight on. I also felt like her hesitations with Gavin were legit and I understood a lot of her reactions to the things that happened. (vague due to spoilers, sorry!) These two were very, very cute together.

I also really loved the girl bonds and relationships. While yes, there were some awful women in this book, there are some amazing ones and I loved how they were always there for each other and had their back. It’s SO hard to find friends like this and reading about it makes me love my friends even more!

Penalty Flags:

While I thought the monologue was hilarious, I felt like the #Hashtags got a little tedious, then annoying, after a while. I struggled with all the events playing on around the central plot line, and felt like they weren’t really wrapped up well enough. I also thought some actions of the characters were WAY off from how they are perceived in the beginning and it didn’t feel… smooth and natural.

Overall Score:

Penalties and “interceptions” aside, this is a fun, solid start to a series. I recommend it to those that love sporty romances, and love a good & fun read.

YES! We were talking about this in our group how close they were. We really don’t see it a lot in books anymore, which is sad! 🙁

  1. Mary

I’m still annoyed at most of the WAGs (*shakes fist at D—-*), but I really did love Marlee with Naomi and Brynn. More of that, please!

I enjoy your format for this review! I don’t have a fantasy football team, but my husband and daughter does. We do watch football, both college and pro, and I’d like to read this during the Sunday games too–it sounds very fun and a decent start for this author.
