With Juri in control and everything in absolute chaos, Lela plunges into the depths of hell to free Malachi from creatures that have waited decades to exact their revenge. But the Judge has her own way of doing things, and Lela must work with Ana, the new Captain, who has a very personal mission of her own. Together, they infiltrate the most horrifying realm either has yet encountered in the Shadowlands—the bitter landscape ruled by the Mazikin.

The stakes could not be higher, and Lela must accept the help—and love—of people she barely knows or trusts. As alliances and loyalties shift and she realizes the soul she came to save isn’t the only one in need of rescue, can Lela summon the strength to see the fight through to the very end?

It’s no secret that I have been IN LOVE with this series since day one. If there is one series that I feel everyone should read, it’s the Guards of the Shadowlands series. Hands down. And trust me, I have pushed it.

Here in Chaos, Ana and Lela journey into the Mazikin city to rescue Malachi. You thought the Dark City was rough? This is a place of unbearable torture, and it was so heartbreaking to see how those souls have lived since their possession.

Of all the books, I felt that Chaos had the most action, twists and emotions. Every moment was intense, shocking and I couldn’t get enough! We learn so much more about Ana, The Judge and the Mazikin too. I have always been curious about their origin and how they became to be as they are, and we get all those answers. Part of me feels for them, but not int he way you would think. This is because Sarah sets up such real, emotional story lines, forcing you to see both sides of everything. Which is just one of my many things I love about her writing.

Speaking of. Sarah is definitely ranked as one of my favorite authors. She creates such real, emotional characters and worlds that are so devastating and unique. It’s terrifying yet beautiful.

There are an array of new characters introduced, and of course old faces. There was one in particular that I didn’t trust (well, that’s all the characters if I were honest) and it took me the entire book to jump on that train. Devastating things happen to every single one of these characters, my heart almost couldn’t take it. Betrayal, death. Loss of a loved one. It was never ending.

Then we have Lela and Malachi. Lela has been such a strong, selfless character since day one, making her one of my all time favorite heroines. She is constantly sacrificing herself for the ones she loves, regardless of the pain it causes her. She has been put to the ultimate test here in Chaos, and how she handles everything is truly amazing. Malachi too, has been put through so much. Not just in the Mazikin city – the daily torture by the Queen- but his fight to save all those people who have been possessed. Discovering where they actually went just about killed him, and he is set on saving them from the hell they endure. It was just devastating watching him struggle with that and his all his emotions. The love between him and his friends, and Lela, is just inspiring.

Now, Lela and Malachi together? FEELS. Lela and Malachi share such a deep, inspiring love for each other, making them my favorite fiction couples. They have grown so much over the course of the series, and their interactions are by far my favorite scenes. I don’t want to spoil anything about their time together, because I truly feed you need to experience it for yourself, but I will share this quote –

“Lela,” he said tenderly. “You walked into hell for me. I fought my way out of heaven for you. No matter what happens, there is one thing I don’t doubt at all: we will find each other again.”

Overall –

If you couldn’t tell, I LOVED IT. I am so sad to see this series end but happy at the same time.. Action packed, emotional and by far the best in the series! If you haven’t started this series, what are you waiting for!?

TONYA. I need to start this. I said I was going to and then I started reading other books! GAH. I’m kinda nervous though because I’m struggling to remember Ana, the Mazikin, The Judge, etc. I really only remember that WHOPPER of a cliffhanger in Fractured! Do you think I can just jump back into the world and be ok?

I’m glad you loved this one as much as the others, because too often series enders disappoint, so I am thrilled this one didn’t! (Esp. considering it’s one of your faves!)

    Great review amiga!
