Decatur Book Festival~ Day 1 Wrap up

As most of you know, I have been anxiously awaiting the Decatur Book Festival. Which was this past weekend! 🙂

I had so much fun with my family, got to meet some of my bloggers friends AND some amazing authors. Since there was quite a bit that I did over the weekend, I am breaking down my wrap up into two post, one for each day!

This is Day 1!

We were under the assumption that traffic was going to be HORRENDOUS. There was a lot going on in the Atlanta area on Saturday, so we left pretty early. It wasn’t too bad though (not like my last trip to Atlanta for the RWA signing. Remember that!? LOL) and we got there super early.

It was hotter than Hades outside. Which, take into consideration that our Summer was pretty mild. So of course, on the one weekend we were to be OUTSIDE all freaking day, it was HOT. And I mean… HOT. By the time we left, I needed a shower. Ew, right?

For the first few hours, we just walked around, chatted with a few Authors and made some Crowns. In which, I was dubbed queen for the day. I got A LOT of comments about it. Even Rick Yancey said I was rockin it. bahaha He also said I was an awesome mom to sport it. 🙂

We also went to the Wimpy Kid Van. This was so lame LOL the festival details made it sound like this was SO AWESOME for the kids. No. It was a van. A sheet of stickers. And two guys that hardly engaged in conversation.

As far as panels go, the family and I attended the Sci Fi Thrills and Chills Panel, that featured Rick Yancey and D. J. MacHale. I myself, haven’t read a SINGLE book by either of these two. *hangs head in shame*

Both of these guys are great story tellers. I’m not even kidding. My oldest was so enthralled by D.J  I swear he was drooling and after Rick Yancey spoke, my husband was convinced he HAD TO READ THE 5TH WAVE. My husband doesn’t read much. Yeah, he’s that good.

Also, random fact– I did NOT know that D.J MacHale wrote, produced and directed Are You Afraid of the Dark. I LOVED THAT SHOW.

AND THAT. Was the line. I’m pretty sure it was the longest line I stood in the whole weekend.

So after lunch, we met up with one of my blogger friends, Jessica from Lovin’ los libros. I was SO excited to finally meet her! She is so fun and awesome. We actually have a lot more in common than just books! Which is cool. We didn’t get ANY pics together until Sunday, because we were all sweaty and mutually agreed on the NO PICS. However, my husband snagged some random pics while we were looking around and chit chatting.

Anyway. We all attended the Well, How Did I Get Here? Panel– featuring Michelle Hodkin, Myra McEntire and Lauren Miller. These ladies are fun and hilarious.

I didn’t get many pics for this event either, but here is what I DID get.

Isn’t Michelle so CUTE?

So last but not least, we walked the festival again. We went to the Childrens area and THERE, is where Jessica was bombarded by this Author, discussing his book about Cats and Greek Mythology. I don’t even know. I felt bad that I giggled and walked away, leaving her alone but I was not able to keep a straight face. Anyway, here are the remaining pics that my hubby snagged.

Here is ALL THE GOODIES. I got some signed book marks too, but I am too lazy to gather them all and take a picture right now. So, those will be included in Day 2 wrap up!

    Queen For the Day,

You indeed rocked that crown. I love that you got to meet those authors and those books and your friend! It would be worth the heat and humidity for all of that.

But Wimpy Kid Van–COME ON NOW, PUT IN SOME EFFORT!! 😉

YEAH! You abandoned me to the cat Greek mythology dude and his creepy little sidekick girl who was far too educated for her age! LOL! It was so much fun though! Despite the insane heat and the fact I sounded like a dude because of my cold. 😀

And you guys totally rocked the crowns. We should have made Kyle wear one with his Darth Vader bling shirt!

It was either walk away or pretty much laugh in his face! I couldn’t do that. But I am sorry I left you. Kinda LOL

It was a lot of fun! I am hoping to make it up there next month. We shall seeeeeee 😉

Zachary tried to make one for Kyle but he wouldn’t wear it. Lame.

Thanks! It was smaller than I originally thought though, but still fun! I wish Kyle would have taken a pic of Jess’ face when talking to Cat Guy
