A Preservation Series Companion Novel
Love, life, and happily ever after? It’s all relative.
Marine biology student Emma Pierce lives in paradise—geographically speaking, anyway. Stranded on Sanibel Island, Florida, she works at a nursing home by day and spends her nights dodging the island's infamous bad boy, Jackson Taylor, at her favorite karaoke bar. Trying to heal from the loss of her sister and a failed relationship she rerouted her life for, she's ready to graduate and finally leave Florida behind.
When a run-in with Jackson and his rowdy crew goes sour at the bar one night, sparks fly and irreversible damage is done. It’s no secret that Jackson loves to get underneath her skin, but this time he's gone too far. Now all he wants is to earn her forgiveness before she's gone for good, but their ideas of closure—and the future—are enough to keep them worlds apart
I received this book for free from The Author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Before you say ANYTHING about me reading another NA after all my vents about my funks; I signed up for this tour before said funk. AND, I am coming out of it. Thank you very much. ANYWAY, just thought I would get that out there. Lets talk books, shall we? So. I have to say, I was pretty nervous at first because I saw the authors note about this being a companion to the Preservation series, which I hadn’t read. I know with spin-offs, you don’t need to read the initial series but it helps because you get a better feel for the characters and are familiar with them. I am glad this wasn’t necessarily the case because I would have hated to miss something.
Love and Relativity was a refreshing, sweet, steamy and realistic love story. I especially loved how we didn’t have overly traumatic characters. They had flaws, issues and secrets, sure. But this is a love story about forgiveness and compromise. About two people who are so opposite, they shouldn’t work. But they do. Two people finding their way to each other and back again.
Emma is still grieving over the death of her sister and her crushed dreams to leave when things start to get hot and heavy with the town bad boy, Jackson. Emma isn’t new to his flirtatious and sexy ways, since they have been friends for over 3 years, but Emma wants more than just to be another notch his is best post. Jackson, the bad boy who is seems care free, is charming and has had frequent one nighters, is the last thing that Emma needs.
I loved these two together. While I felt at first their relationship moved pretty quick, it was obvious these two had more than “friendship” feelings for each other from the get go. They were both just too hot-headed and blind to act on it. It took one night, one incident for both of them to open their eyes and see things clearly and what was right in front of them. Yes, they’re opposites but they are both so stubborn I wanted to throttle them both. Their scenes were extra steamy and hot too. 😆
I really loved the secondary characters too. Especially Emma’s best friend, Whitney. She really cares for Emma and is there for her. I also liked Carter, which I didn’t know was in Preservation until later, after finishing. They both are the best type of friends everyone needs and should have on their side.
My Peeve- I wasn’t a fan of the ending, to be honest. I felt everything was rushed. Especially after everything that happened leading up to the ending. I am hoping for a sequel to follow-up on it, because I was not satisfied with it.
Overall- I really liked it! Such a sweet (steamy and hot too) love story. The perfect book to break me out of my NA funk. Well done Rachael. If there is a sequel, I’ll be there. I will also be checking out the Preservation series, I love this girls writing.
