Soon, Elusion® will change the world and life as we know it.

A new technology called Elusion is sweeping the country. An app, visor and wristband will virtually transport you to an exotic destination where adventure can be pursued without the complications—or consequences—of real life.

Regan is an Elusion insider. Or at least she used to be. Her father invented the program, and her best friend, Patrick, heir to the tech giant Orexis, is about to release it nationwide. But ever since her father’s unexpected death, Regan can’t bear to Escape, especially since waking up from the dream means crashing back to her grim reality.

Still, when there are rumors of trouble in Elusion—accusations that it’s addictive and dangerous— Regan is determined to defend it. But the critics of Elusion come from surprising sources, including Josh, the handsome skeptic with his own personal stakes. As Regan investigates the claims, she discovers a disturbing web of secrets. She will soon have to choose between love and loyalty…a decision that will affect the lives of millions.

Suspense, thrills, and romance fuel this near-future story about the seductive nature of a perfect virtual world, and how far one girl will go to uncover the truth behind the illusions.

I received this book for free from The Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I just have to mention how AMAZING this cover is!

Since I have been on this wild contemporary wave lately, I was beyond ecstatic to start Elusion. I love me a good sci-fi, especially one with a virtual reality, and Elusion nailed it. I devoured this book.

Elusion had a lot of my favorite elements in it. Romance, mystery and very vivid, descriptive writing. I loved the detailed descriptions we get in Elusion. It’s painted so flawlessly that I could picture myself there, right along with Regan in the landscape. Honestly, aside from the lack of back-story, I thought the writing was amazing. The pacing was smooth and anytime an author(s) can write such a well done mystery that I am constantly second guessing everything, it perfection in my eyes.

Regan was an amazing protagonist. She is very loyal, brave and very persistent. Although she believed her Father and Pat, innocent; when things started to look otherwise, she drove head first into they fray and hunt down some answers, questioning everything, regardless of her love for them. She wanted to do what was right, by everyone, and not cover up the things that could harm the frequent users of Elusion.

Josh too, is very strong and loyal. He was a little harder to read, especially in the beginning. It always felt like he had an ulterior motive than what we were getting. He is fiercely protective though, and I loved that about him. I thought the romance was sweet and I adored these two together. As for Pat, eh. I almost felt a little biased towards him in the beginning since he was Regan’s best friend, but there was just something OFF that I couldn’t put my finger on.

I loved the mystery. There is something wrong with Elusion, causing teenagers to become addicted or end up in a coma. You know there’s a cover up somewhere, but you don’t know how deep it goes or who is involved. Like I said, I was second guessing everything. But I wont lie, some of the tech talk went right over my head. Interesting, yes. But I am not the best person to follow that trend. Once I reread it, I was fine but man, it was complex.

The ending. I wouldn’t technically call it a cliffhanger, but it defiantly ends abruptly, leaving you well… hanging–with thoughts of WTH pinging around. I may have flailed a little bit in irritation but my interest is piqued for book two. I cannot WAIT.

My Peeve– Like I mentioned before, the lack of back-story. This is usually a HUGE thing for me in Dystopians– or futuristic novels. But it didn’t bother me as much as it usually does. The world is the way it IS but WHY?

Overall- I loved this. Elusion is thrilling, mysterious and a fantastic start to a series. I highly recommend. Also, that pretty cover will definitely be on my favorite shelves.

Such a gorgeous cover! Regan sounds fantastic, nothing better than a kickass protagonist 😀 Who needs a wilting wallflower?! I get what you mean about the world building on Dystopian, the world is just kinda handed to you to work out how it turned out that way but at least it didn’t bother you too much. Brilliant review, Tonyalee 😀
