Two years ago, the aliens made contact. Now Cara Sweeney is going to be sharing a bathroom with one of them.

Handpicked to host the first-ever L'eihr exchange student, Cara thinks her future is set. Not only does she get a free ride to her dream college, she'll have inside information about the mysterious L'eihrs that every journalist would kill for. Cara's blog following is about to skyrocket.

Still, Cara isn't sure what to think when she meets Aelyx. Humans and L'eihrs have nearly identical DNA, but cold, infuriatingly brilliant Aelyx couldn't seem more alien. She's certain about one thing though: no human boy is this good-looking.

But when Cara's classmates get swept up by anti-L'eihr paranoia, Midtown High School suddenly isn't safe anymore. Threatening notes appear in Cara's locker, and a police officer has to escort her and Aelyx to class.

Cara finds support in the last person she expected. She realizes that Aelyx isn't just her only friend; she's fallen hard for him. But Aelyx has been hiding the truth about the purpose of his exchange, and its potentially deadly consequences. Soon Cara will be in for the fight of her life-not just for herself and the boy she loves, but for the future of her planet.

I received this book for free from The Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Alienated is just one of the many 2014 titles that I have been excited to get my hands on. So yes, I was beside myself when I received a copy, even setting aside every other read that I had lined up or was currently reading. I am so glad I did. This was un put down-able and I loved it.

Although I am not the biggest fan of third person narrative, I thought it really worked out well for this book. We get both POVs of Cara and Aelyx, and I loved being inside both their heads. They have distinct voices, it was not difficult to tell them apart. I really liked Cara and was almost instantly connected to her. She went through a lot of tough situations. Her friends, boyfriend and entire town turned against her, because she agreed to the exchange. Sure, she had her moments of self-pity but overall, I thought she was strong, brave and quite funny.

Aelyx was a little bit more difficult to like. He comes off as arrogant and it really bugs me when characters have that “I am better than you” mentality. However. He did a tremendous amount of growing. Really, he was almost a completely different person, errr alien, in the end. I loved it.

As for their relationship: sure, it was predictable where it was going but it was so sweet, I didn’t care. There is no insta-love; these two slowly build up a friendship that turns into a super cute and sweet romance. Their attraction was undeniable from the start and the sexual tension was off the charts! They had some awkward and funny moments together that had me crackin up! Particularly, a scene with Aelyx reciting the periodic table, her father and a backwards shirt.

Of course, there is more to this than just the romance. I liked the history and back story of the L’eihr’s. It was so fascinating learning about their life, customs and where they originated. There was also this mystery to exactly WHAT Aleyx was up to. Yes, we have his POV but we were kept in the dark for SO LONG, I was going crazy! It was an interesting plot and kept me entertained.

My Peeve- It’s predictability, where the romance is concerned. Also, there were a few scenarios I was a little frustrated regarding Cara and her decision-making. I just thought it was a little.. much. Aaaaaaaaand, I don’t like the presence of a particular character at the end. Something doesn’t sit right and I have a bad feeling about this person and his possible role in book 2.

Overall- I really loved this! Solid writing, outstanding & likeable characters, with a sweet romance to boot– makes Alienated un-put-down-able and one of my favorites of the year! I highly recommend.

I’m so glad you enjoyed this one! It is one of my most anticipated books of the year and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. Hopefully the predictability won’t bother me that much! Great review 🙂

Oh my goodness, I am so starting this next! So glad the predictability didn’t stop you from enjoying it and I hope what you think of a character’s possible role isn’t what I think it is…
    Brilliant review 😀
